Noise Area Surveys

Noise area surveys are carried out to determine the noise levels in different areas of the workplace. The class 1 integrating sound level meter is usually used to measure the sound level at different locations and then it is used to prepare the noise map of the work area. Noise maps are important to identify locations in the workplace where hearing protection must be worn.

Personal Dosimetry

Personal dosimetry is used to carry out personal noise exposure assessment. The workers wear a noise dosimeter on the shoulder for the duration of the shift. The data logging dosimeter provides the time-weighted average noise exposure of the workers for the shift. Dosimeters provide measurements for both the time-weighted noise average and peak noise levels recorded during the shift. Personal dosimetry is often the preferred way for noise exposure assessment of mobile workers, who do not work at a fixed location.

Sound Level Meter Survey

For workers who work at fixed locations with fixed noise sources. The sound level meter can be used to estimate their shift noise exposure based on time spent in different locations. The sound level survey must be carried out by a competent person, i.e., an experienced occupational hygienist. The result of the survey can be used to calculate the time-weighted average noise exposure for workers. the Results can also be used to select suitable hearing protection.
